ctcp exposes conventional plates while ctp thermal (or violet )
One advantage the ctcp has is if you're running a film workflow and you are satisfied with your plates/chemicals etc so you don't want to change vendors you can upgrade to a ctp workflow and keep the old running.
Can't tell if conventional plates exposed in a ctcp system behave better or worse than thermals exposed on ctp, as i never worked with ctcp machine.
Also years ago conventional plates cost was lower than thermals and way lower than violet, but i don't think this is the case anymore.

    CtCP requires sensitive plates

Generally CtCP imaging requires "Faster" emulsions.
Unless the UV laser is VERY powerful, "Normal" analog plates may be too slow for efficient productivity.

Didn't know that, but i'm sure when we changed from violet to thermal we talked the ctcp option, it was pricier, faster and the sales guy told us we could expose analogue plates as well...

    CTP laser power

Here is a White Paper from the Bob Weber website that explores the subject we are discussing here:

It may be a little outdated, but still very educational.
