Printing metallic inks on Epson SC-S80600???

    hi there!

is anybody out there who can share experiences with printing metallic/silver inks with epson surecolor printers?

which rip software and which settings give the best results?

are there any predefined color tables for printing e.g. pantone 877 or pantone 871?

    hello!

I'm printing a metal ink on the printer Epson SC-S80600. RIP Caldera version 10. I built a profile with metallic ink. The file must be prepared with an alpha or spot channel.
Prints perfectly. Only these inks are very expensive.
In the Caldera there is a library of colors. No problem with that.

    thanks for your comments.

meanwhile i managed to print some test results with colorgate productionserver.

i was aware of the double price of metallic ink but i didnt notice before purchase that the machine is slow as hell when printing metallic inks.

you can only get 4 square meters printed per hour!
so its absolutely useless for serious high volume production. ;-((

The price is more expensive by about six times. But other than that, the printer itself doing periodically clean the channel of silver ink. And if not print, then within one or two months the ink will end. It makes sense to only have the time to print these ink. To have a lot of orders.

For special ink I should recommend 2 RIP programs:

1/ AcroRIP/Partner RIP usually used for DTG printting which allow you to modify printhead color arrangement for use with white ink. In this case you replace the white ink with your metalic silver ink with good result. Additionally this program allow you to change color curve + ink limit value which I think might prove to be very useful in your case.

2/ EKPrint: also used extensively in DTG printing. Similar to the one above but also allow to you specify which nozzle of your printer using which ink color, maximizing your control over the ink. Also notably that this RIP also enable you to control ink drop size.

Both programs are compatible with most Epson printers.
