I have a problem with my color calibration ... especially with the gray ...
I print a lot of cad plans, regularly with gray surface, but i 'm not happy with the results ...
I have an xrite 1one, with i1profiler. i made a chart that i print with adobe color printer utility with no color management option (canon ipf 8400se) but the results are too red at my eyes ... i can fine tune with the printer option but it's not normal ...
Are i'm making a mistake during the calibration ?

What kind of paper are you using? Ever tried Chromix Curve4 for gray calibration?
It's a canon coated paper 90gr.
Didn't have chromix, do you have a dl link perhaps ??

there are so many things to take into account:
do you have rgb or cmyk workflow?
do you use a rip?
what color space has your print data?
how about the advanced settings during profile generation?
which rendering intent do you use?
what is your simulated colorspace?
color profiling is NOT a "one click and you are done" task!
The test chart do you have printed was in RGB or CMYB?

Print from Photoshop CS5
Open TIFF RGB (being out of profile is considered in the RGB workbook of Photoshop).
Assigning sRGB (if the RGB work colorspace is sRGB you do not have to assign it, but if we assign it we are safer).
Give the print command and set it
Color management performed by Photoshop
SRGB Printer Profile (this way Photoshop will not make any conversion because the image and printer have the same profile and will forward the embedded profile)
Colorimetric intent: relative without compensation, but I think it is irrelevant
Go to the print settings
Color Matching is all gray because Photoshop has somehow alerted the system to have done it all.
Print Settings: Set the paper and the type of print (for example, Epson Premium Glossy, Advanced Mode, Low Speed).
This procedure prints a test chart with sRGB as the source profile (because the source profile did not arrive in the queue and sRGB is the default) and sRGB as the printer profile.
After printed test chart in this way you read it with i1profiler and eyeone and create the profile color for your device.
to put it all together:
you have no budget, you have no skills and you dont have any standards for print data.
but you want perfect print results for free???
forget about it!

I don't want perfect print results... i want acceptable gray, the most neutral possible and that's all ...
I'm a little business, i put budget in what's worth it for me (in things that let me earn money), i'm not an expert in color at all but i think i have certain skills very usefull in what i do, why be so rude ...
