    I'll vouch for VectorMagic, too..
It's a very simple yet powerful program...though, I wish it had mind reading capabilities cuz sometimes it just doesn't do what I want it to. :/

If you play with the settings, it's not hard to get the results you want in Illustrator. I found CS5 much easier to work with, but CS6 gets far better results. Just keep playing around with it!

Ooooh. I've never heard of vector magic before. o__o
Will try it out in the future. > w <

(Been playing with Illustrator's built-in tracing and I get decent results, but not the best).

    It depends,
    1. For click tracing (which I don't use often) : vector magic is the best, but then the result isn't good enough (IMHO) for my taste. Though sometimes clients don't really care about it.

    2. For tracing as making a photo realistic vector graphic, I'd say Illustrator CS6. Not using the trace engine but doing it manually. CS6 makes it easy and fast (manually.) Compared to Corel (which now doesn't really exist in Mac environment), AI is pretty much on the same category. However though, today 's industry standard is Illustrator.

** I've been experiencing problem transferring between CDR (corel native file) files among Mac (another industry standard) users. Therefore, if you just started, I'd suggest to embrace Adobe's. And I used to be a Freehand MX hardcore user, and swayed to the Dark Side after Adobe purchased Macromedia. But, it's been a long smooth freeway after I switched to Adobe's

I use Corel and Illustrator CS5, in my experience Corel Draw does better at tracing. Really looking forward to using Vector Magic though based on the good reviews.

I have only used cs5 and cs6. Never heard of inkspace or vectormagic so going to track them down and compare results to illustrator. Oh and will try Corel draw too.

I absolutely agree. While the best that I saw Corel Trace. There is a lot of settings, always it is possible to receive acceptable result.

In what way is vector magic better than illustrator?
