Pen tool combined with a tablet. Additionally, the pathfinder panel is clutch.

mkinal, I use the same technique for step and repeat, works great! Lately I've been using the Edit>Edit colors>Recolor with Preset>1 color job after selecting a CMYK object to pick an equivalent Pant color. Select your Pant library and double click on the square below the 'New' beside the current colors. Up pops the PMS color, easy and quick!

    Illustrator rules

Also love the 3D section, New pattern maker in CS6, but the overall winner is the pathfinder pallette combined with the shape builder tool.

In my opinion, the effects and the colour swatches are very useful, because some printers I use support some proprietary matching systems, but overall it seems everything is useful, especially when I modified a typeface to from a sans serif to a transitional.

Live-Trace once you get the hang of it so much cleaner than other vector based software's, got to say though that's all I used it for and maybe some recoloring but with some of these ideas im definitely going to have a play about thanks guys.

    illustrator beginner

My favorite is the livetrace and scripting tools.

Pretty new to illustrator, so I mainly use it to vectorize images or make geometric patterns and color pallettes.
