What Illustrator features are your favourites? My fave is the Effects menu!

The uses for the Effects menu are many and far-reaching. I use the effects for stepping artwork as well as the usual drop shadows and glows. The effects show up in the Appearance pallet. From that pallet you can turn the eyeball on and off to show or hide the effect, or click on it to edit it. When I can substitute a Path>Offset Path for a stroke I will use it. It's so much easier to edit later when it pops up in the Appearance pallet. One trick to using these effects is that they respect the 0,0 x,y of the page so when you rotate the item, the drop shadow will NOT rotate.
What features in Illustrator do YOU like the most?

Has everybody switched their coloring from the swatch/color menus to the Appearance pallet? I make a habit of using the Appearance to combine colors in a single object instead of using separate overprinting objects. Has everyone figured this out? So powerful!

    Favorite/Most used Illustrator tool

I use the Separations Preview all the time. I know it is not a tool per say, but it is handy non the less.

The pen tool is a classic Illustrator strength. When Freehand was popular years ago, a co worker showed me why Illustrator was better than FH. In Illustrator you could grab a curved line anywhere and move it around while the curves changed their angles. With Freehand, you had to click and drag on the curve's points, which limited the intuitiveness.

The glyphs option in the type menu put more smiles on the faces of non-typesetters than I could imagine. Forget about figuring out keyboard shortcuts, you can get any character right in the Glyphs menu, awesome!!!!

Really? I find that the built in Live Trace is really no good at accurately tracing anything. Even a simple straight line will end up butchered. Look into VectorMagic.

I like the scripting and actions panel for automating. This area of Illustrator needs to be improved quite a bit though!

Opacity masks is a great feature and it let me do a lot of works without Photoshop.

The thing I like best in Illustrator is that I can create logo's and work with text very easy. Its a breeze to start out with a simple font and create a stunning logo with it. Also I really like the trace feature for hand drawings.
