Depending on your work - graphics, photography, etc. you could try Behance, SmugMug, Flickr or 500px. They're great places to showcase your work to the industry. Facebook and Twitter will work, but they're less focused I guess...

There's a huge market growing in the younger generation for apps that are constantly changing. I always keep my eye on the top 20 apps in the iTunes store and market through those. It's hard to follow, but some of the most popular social media outlets only last for a month or .

I've mentid, that keeping a blog (ok, it's not exactly socia media...) is more efficient than using for example Facebook. If having basic knowledge of SEO, blogs are quite efficient way plus having Pinterest pin option in blog, ppl spread the word via images - free marketing.

But of course Flickr and 500px if photographer. And Behance for something else.

Yep. For any kind of graphic design, you'd have to say Dribbble.

You can list yourself for hire on there too

dribbble for quick shots of in-progress work, behance for full case studies, tumblr for any side projects or personal stuff related to what I do, pinterest for collecting inspiration, twitter, facebook page and instagram - all of them linking to my portfolio website.
for now Behance and Dribbble are doing the best at attracting clients and general attention. :)
