Have you ever tried opening a cdr under illustrator? You basically have to redo 70% of the work, its like going back to Illustrator 4...
Yet most signage professionals use it here in France...

A couple of years ago they still taught Corel softwares at our school. I was rebel using Adobe :D I thought Corel was so last season and weird choice, because every single office I know use Adobe. I think they have given up with Corel now at school, too.

I think Corel was out of the game way back, I'm still hoping some sinks Adobe... I like their stuff but it really is a drag to use the new Suite, everything cloud based, yuck... Bad way to fight the pirates.

Lots of hate out there for Corel.
Used Corel in the old days and loved it. It had features 10 years ago that Illustrator is still missing today or barely catching up ! But I don't use it anymore.

And Freehand was also great before Adobe swallowed it and kill it.
Exactly... remember Macromedia? i learned on Corel draw and haven't used it since version 3... the learning curve on illustrator is a little different, i remember looking at the 2 arrows (black & white) and wondering why... anyway it all makes sense now and the integration is good between software.
Plus CC has some cool features, pattern maker, package for output, un-embed images... pretty slick stuff.
But Corel could manipulate gradients on screen a long time ago...
Painter x3 from Corel is a very natural paint program... its all in what you are used to.

With Adobe CC's new subscription scheme, many studios are now looking for alternative software.

I have been playing with the freeware Inkscape for a while but it is not perfect.

CorelDraw does most of the things we need for a fair price.

I am a professional graphic designer and I use Corel Draw. So what?
Even if the designer works mainly with Illustrator, it should still be able to work with Corel Draw to understand other people's work.

I haven't used corel draw since the 90s but it can never hurt to know your way around multiple programs.

That's what I'm thinking. I haven't used it in forever, but it can always be useful to have experience with both programs.
