in my opinion they never did use it.
PDFs created with Adobe programs are better and reliable.

If some learn CorelDraw from basics, will use it, later will use other programs too.
If you learn Illustrator, you will never use others. Especially if you are mac user.

So some never heard about CorelDraw? (Corel11 was the latest mac version.) In schools teachers uses now only Adobe programs. Thats why you not heard.

I need Freehand 12 instead of Illustrator.
Of course I use Illustrator. Because others use it.
Illustrator open Freehand files too. You can open Corel10 files. But why not open 11-x6 files? Hmmm? Got fear from Corel?

They bought/killed Freehand, and they will bury corelDraw if they can.
Just like Indesign/quark killed Ventura. Now (after 10 years) Indesign can make the same things like Ventura. Now we use Indesign. But some function still not built in into Indesign. Maybe next release got them...

Like it or not Illustrator will be the only .

I made my final examination with Freehand many years ago. After that worked on Illu. But I steer clear of Corel It had/has also a really bad repute.

    sorta

I've only ever used the adobe CS products as a standard. There are some people I work with in production that still use it. So i don't think it went the way of quark just yet.

Its like the debate of Mac or PC, Corel Draw or Illustrator...

You can acheive basically the same thing from both.

I have used Corel Draw and Illustrator. The work a bit differently but the are both very powerful programs.

I believe though that Adobe products are used more globally though.

It's not entirely true, some STILL use it, it's like comparing 3ds Max with Cinema 4D, every has their own taste and workflow, what matters is the end result That said I've seen more and more requirement of Illustrator knowledge over the other though.

Thats because Corel makes the life of designer hard for simple tasks. Illustrator is brilliant and intuitive.
