Lots of hate out there for Corel.
Used Corel in the old days and loved it. It had features 10 years ago that Illustrator is still missing today or barely catching up ! But I don't use it anymore.

And Freehand was also great before Adobe swallowed it and kill it.
Totally agree with you. I have used both of them. I'm familiar with layer, Illustrator is easy than Corel. But there are some features (combination mouse click and keyboard) in Corel that very helping fast for the workflow.

For me personally it is true!

CorelDraw was my very first vector tool and I used it almost 10 years. But when i discover Illustrator and found out how nice is to use only Adobe softwares - well... RIP Coreldraw, viva la illustrator :)

From my experience, Corel is mostly used by people from printing industry and amateur designers.

During my studies in graphic design, we have never used Corel. We learned all about the Adobe suite! I personally worked on but I much prefer Adobe!

I've never used it in 5 years (since I'm studying graphic design) and I don't know anybody (professional) that uses it.
