Its simple. Make sure you have Adobe pdf printer. open pdf file in adobe acrobat professional. select print and select page scalling to tile. Select paper size as A5 tall, if your doc is landscape or Wide if your doc is portrait. check if tile is 2 pages. adjust the size litter large if the tile is more than 2 pages. Print to pdf and voila, the result you want is there.

Also you can create a5 sized 64 pages indesign document with facing page options then import pdfs with "show import options". Select all pages and place them to spreads one by one. Align pages to spread. Finaly export to pdf or print postscript and distill it again.

I always use for this plugin Quite Imposing for Acrobat Pro. Function "n-up pages" make me many posibilities to organize pages.

Another option is crop the page in half showing half the pages, resave that file with a new name. Open the original file again and repeat with the other half of the pages. Then combine the 2 new files together and re-order the pages then save this final document. I've used this method myself on documents of upto 100 pages which then have been passed on for print with no problems.

I usualy use Pitstop and Quite Imposition to do that job.
    - Crop the right half of A4 page by Pitstop Crop Tool.
    - Save as another file or extract all pages.
    - Undo or reopen the original and crop the left hafl of A4 page by Pitstop Crop Tool.
Now I have two A5 files, 1 is odd page and other is event.
    - Use Odd/Event Shufte page in Quite Impostion to merge them into full page A5 size.

Is that the stand-alone version of Quite Imposition and isn't it able to do it straight away without using Pitstop? Because as mentioned earlier by someone, Quite Imposing for Acrobat Pro can do this straight away..

You would need PDF2ID plugin to import pdf to InDesign.
