    Skeuomorphism or minimalism?

Here's something me and my friends debated yesterday. Would love to hear this forum's take on this.

They both have their place! It is like to ask: Color or black and white.

Sometimes rich visuals match the task, other times minimal design does it.
However I dislike the flat concept of today, especially the iOS one, visually it's lame.

    agree with this.

for me I like both, when it fit with client wants, that's the goal :D

imo, each style has an advantage, with minimalism you have to think how to minimize the design element make it very slim, light and simple. Skeuomorphism is how to make a design more alive (3D) looks real, more colors.

yeah for now the design trend is flat (minimalism) like on ios, I think it's cool, make an iPhone / iPad looks flying, very slim and light.

Me and my friends were talking about the same... We were looking 4 the antonym of flat design and we found skeuomorphism and obviously, they both have their place but flat is more tendentious.

It's like life's cycle. Changes from time to time.

I love it. It's what it should have been all along. By By drop shadows and all that junk. There is another reason that minimalism is here to stay also. It is harder to design than what we were bombarded with for the last 7 - 10 years. I'm looking forward to seeing more minimal designs over the coming years.

It's not 'Flat design' - it's just design as it should be. Nothing new here. Designers are just going back to what real design is all about - communicating in the most efficient way. It's always been there. It's just considered a trend now. It's like design lost it's way for the last few years, and now it's back.

There's no clear boundary between the two although nowadays people see them often as opponents. One emphasizes functionality while the other cares more about aesthetics. Minimalism is inherited more from the Bauhaus, and skeuomorphism is more of a deviation from the modernist trend.
