I recently purchased my wife one of these for Christmas. She already had the Cricut. Of the two, she prefers the Cameo Silhouette. A major bonus of the CS is you do not need cartridges, whereas with the other you (1) do or (2)--in older models--need additional software "Sure Cuts A Lot."
Hope that helps!
I've never used the Cameo, but purchased a KNK Zing and have been happy with the results. I've cut paper and card stock from SVG files which were created in illustrator. I think these machines are much to slow to be used in a commercial setting. It takes to long to load, align and unload the paper from the matt.
I forgot to mention that the Zing comes with Make-The-Cut software which seems to be pretty good, although I haven't tried anything else as a comparison. It's easy to export svg, eps,ai or pdf's from illustrator. Import into Make the Cut and cut from there.
Zing vs Cameo
Graphtec cutter comes with Cutting Master 3 Plug-in for Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw. I just help a friend of my set his new 24" cutter & i was amazed how easy it was to cut from AI.
The plugin just let you cut, any changes must be done in Ai. It Mac compatible which is what he has. I don't know if you can purchase just the plugin from Graphtec or whether it support other cutter brand.
