scanned image to pantone? and which pantone?

    Hi all,

the book must be printed in 2 colours.

how can i (easy) convert images to black+pantone?

i tried select->color range. it works good with black, but not blue. how to get good channel for blue and blue tints?

and how to find best match blue pantone? because in tints (light blue) colors became too warm (violet) or too dirty

The best option would be to open each inside of photoshop lighten the yellow range to get the background lighter then color range select only the black copy and paste it on a new layer. Then turn the black layer you just pasted off and use channels to select the blue convert file to cmyk if need be to allow cyan select then copy and paste that to a new layer. as far as finding the perfect pantone I would suggest maybe going to your local print shop and asking for them to match to there pantone book (they shouldnt have an issue doing so).

I'd make a grayscale image and then a duotone with black and the desired Pantone. Maybe a little adjustment to eliminate the background and you're good to go!

I prefer convert this to CMYK Color Mode, and go to "black channel" to get black plate (with some levels). All other information (insert black and invert selection) - put to "cyan channel".

    Final decision was...

    split channels
yellow (lightened) added to black, multipy, merge
then merge channels to multichannel (2 channels - cyan (also bit lightened to eliminate backgroud garbage) and black)
    change cyan to Pantone 285

and then publishing house stops process because of "not enough money for now"

Please be aware of a limitation in Photoshop that exists till today.

You can set up a Photoshop file with spot colours and channels, but they cannot be printed from within Photoshop. It can only be printed as CMYK.

if you need to print a Photoshop file as a spot colour, you have to save it as a TIF or EPS and placed it in a software like Illustrator or InDesign which allows you to print selective colour channels.

Covert to CMYK --> work with Balck channel (Curves) --> you made Black
Calculations Cyan + Magenta (Curves) --> subtract the Black --> you made Pantone
---> Multichannel you made Balck + Pantone
