Remake or redesign, i assume redesign, meaning they would like to keep a few parts of there current logo, maybe the cross, add a new modern feel, maybe add a bit of colour as the current one just being white is a little boring and hard to see.

    Hi,

Normally when I do a logo reformulation, I start by making a research work, of other similar brands. Depending on what feeling do you want to put in the new image, you should try some modern fonts, but keep in mind that the clients normally want to keep the old colours. Keep up the good work!

Maybe there is something of significance that makes them stand out from the others?

I also ask the right questions to make sure I'm on the same page with the client:

    1. Is there a unique story behind the business or business name? This may be helpful in brainstorming ideas for your brand.

    2. Are there any inspiring visuals you would like associated with the brand? For example: You would like to incorporate symbolic imagery that relates to the brand.

    3. What words would you want associated with the brand? For example: dependable, trustworthy, helpful etc.

    4. What is the mood of your target market? For example: Are they conservative vs. edgy?

    5. What are the top three emotions you hope to convey through your brand and the design of the project?

    6. What designs appeal to you and why? For example: You may like the style of Apple’s brand because it is sleek and modern.

    7. Do you have any color preferences or dislikes that you would like to share? For example: You prefer a pastel palette and strongly dislike orange.

This usually gives me a good starting point to begin conceptualizing
    This is all great advice!

I think does´n matter you design or re-designing a logo, you should understand what the client want and the best way to do it is a creative briefing. BUT keep in mind that "clean and modern" for you may not have the same meaning for the other guy, so ask for some brand references to, ask 5, at least.

Before research you would need to know the core purpose of the brand /co you are redesigning for. What's the story? How can you turn that story into a simple, visually stunning identity? Those are the questions you ask .
