Quark made a very powerful program, but forgot to develop it. Adobe swallow Aldus, take some expirienece in layout programs and place on market InDesign. Quark earn money, but do not develop their program. Result?
    InDesign rules.

    Currently prefer indesign

I am dedicated to teaching design apps for over twenty years and I changed indesign quarkxpress 4 by 1.5. The reason?, Price. Since then, the evolution of InDesign and its integration with other Adobe programs is total. However, quark is still much more expensive (1,400 euros quark, indesign 820 euros). As an interesting detail, commenting that graphic designers around me did not like Quark never even performed magazines using Freehand . However, Indesign suit with amazing ease. I know it does not make much sense, making the two programs similar functions, but it is reality. The Indesign interface facilitates my teaching, is a proven fact.

Easier to learn InDesign as there are more professionals teaching it in classes and online sites.

I never used Quark, but if you haven't either then InDesign is a no brainier. You'll learn it faster for the reasons above.

I think Indesign CS6 is the best tool for this kind of works.
It's integrated with the Creative Suite so you can manage your workflow better. (and you can swap things from illustrator directly in Indesign).
But i think it should be redesigned with the new CS6 interface and maybe it should be more user-friendly (I spent hours searching for the bullet setting)

real big issues in Quark: PDF generation and Color Management. What a mess!
”It is important that you know where you come from, because if you do not know where you come from,
then you don’t know where you are, and if you don’t know where you are, then you don’t know where you’re going.
And if you don’t know where you’re going, you’re probably going wrong .”

Quark fell to the wayside and is now ancient history. Adobe is getting too cocky.

    InDesign!!!

Not say much, just about price. InDesign is cheaper and better. Quark is a just single program has limited integration with other applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Corel....

But InDeisgn is unique, beside cheaper it has plenty functions, perfect intergration with his family products.

If you have limit budgets, what will you buy?

InDesign is better, because there are more people that are using it, so it is the more compatible format. I don t know any who is still using quark express!
