Works with files up to Quark 4
(Quark 5 files are not recongnized)

And works only with mono-language files.

    Indesign

The little experience I've had with Indesign and Quark, I opt for the first, for the different characteristics and compatibility with Adobe programs mates

100% indesign. because it works very well with photoshop/illustrator/bridge. similar look and layout (to a degree), once you are familiar with one of them, it will be easier to learn them all

    Indesign all the way.
Feels much more intuitive. Although I have limited knowledge of Quark.

I used many publishing software since 1992.
rag time, ready set go, design studio, page maker, publisher, quark xpress, indesign
I think the latest version Indesign is best desktop publishing or digital publishing program.

    Used Both

I use both. To tell you the truth. I used to use Quark before InDesign was even available. Once InDesign came into the picture I changed. It sucked for the first couple releases, but after the 4th version I use It exclusively. I only use Quark if I have a customer that provide Quark files.

In faculty we use InDesign and I'm very satisfied with it.

    (InDesign vs. QuarkXPress)

Best is to try both and decide what best suits your needs.

P.S. Scribus as Open Source program is promising, we will see...

I used Quark for several years, but due to the reason that almost everybody i´m working with is using adobe products, there was a need to switch to keep working together...
I pretty much miss some of the quark features in indesign, but it´s getting better, version by version.

I like indesign better since it can understand other adobe formats in the design suite (ie. illustrator, photoshop, etc) and I use those extensively :)
