question can i open quark files somehow with indesign???
    Yes you can,

you'll have to use markzware Q2ID, whichi works perfectely well. It's really impressive.

if you're a real quark workers, with all your work under quark system, i don't know how you'll do without it if you plan to get on the indesign side of the force.

    my choice is indesign

I used quark for 5 years than indesign for 5 years. In my opinion indesign is slightly better for other adobe apps compatibilty

    Quark or ID?

I think both programs can do the job. If you are strictly typesetting or layout designer, who doesnt bother with more generic graphic workflow (photo editing etc.) you can go with Quark. On the other side, InDesign will suit you better if you using other Adobe CS programs as well.

    I prefer Adobe Illustrator :-)

And if I have to choose one of Quark or InDesign, then I definitely go for InDesign.

    Indesign

I would recommend InDesign if you have not used either.
Its more logically set out compared to Quark.
Quark has been around a long time now and it shows. The user interface is full of things that 'work like this because that how we always did it'!
InDesign will also make more sense if you are used to Photoshop & Illustrator or learning them at the same time.

I think InDesign is better because its development... in my opinion Adobe InDesign will keep on upgrading InDesign, and for Quark im not so sure.

Here in italy everybody used to use quark, now they Work with indesign, even at school, they teaches indesign.
I work in a prepress and graphic Service studio, we use 100% indesign, and the file that comes from other studios are all in indesign (when they don't give you PDF).
But if I where you I'll learn the program that is more use in your country.
If is 50/50 for sure indesign!!!
