    Indesign is better

Indesign is supported by Adobe and it benefits from a good team of developers.

Indesign beats Quark hands down. I've used Quark for the last 15 years and Indesign since version 1.0. Indesign keeps getting better while Quark just adds stupid features that nobody uses.

Here's something that gives a pretty good--though limited-- comparison of the two. This should shed some light to the question. http://www.jordantwiggdesign.co.uk/2011/03/quarkxpress-vs-indesign/

    Respect

I use Indesign, because it is very user friendly and really fast software with lost of plug-in possibilities. But the real power of Indesign is that can collaborate with other Adobe's product. If you use Photoshop and Illustrator between Indesign, it is the best choise for you.

I learned the first quark Xpress but as there is no correct version I preferred InDesign and there is no problem of shadows with InDesign.

    indesign

I used Quark for years and switched to Indesign a few years ago. They are basically the same. Indesign wins because of exporting. When I export to PDFs, Indesign uses Adobe Acrobat where Quark uses jaws or something and always gave me problems, especially exporting a 40 page newspaper. There were errors every time! I have no problems with fonts either in Indesign. Used to have tons of font errors in Quark. Although, Quark's shortcuts make way more sense! I just edited Indesign's in edit>keyboard shortcuts
