Qarks is still used by people who are used to it or by people who send their files to a print house that is still using the format.
Other than that I do not think there is any reason to use Quark and there are all the reasons to use InDesign.
It keeps evolving and it is compatible with all other Adobe programs like Illustrator and Photoshop, in the sense of their files being compatible but also if you learn of them you know how to do a lot of things in all of them. I think it is very useful that they are trying to make them similar in functions.

InDesign, of course. Now you can even manage digital publishing on it. Also the scripting community is awesome!

I've used both indesign and quarkxpress, but i prefer indesign. it is easy to use and it has more options to achieve the same task. But if you know quark well, then you are good to go

In my 10 years of graphic design, I've only come across 1 case of somebody using Quark. Indesign is by far the most used software, and I believe the best.

i'd say they are both great tools but it seems most quark users refuse to use indesign because they find it hard adjusting to new method of doing things

My first needs when i try a new software is usability. Adobe is the king of usability and Indesign is greatly improve by experience acquired by all the software ecosystem of adobe. In details, maybe Quark is more efficient or powerful but in daily workflow, indesign is a killer-software with what we can work all day long without a headache in the evening. Definitely : Indesign.
