I always use Photoshop to design ADS or icons, but when I want to design a webpage or interface of a application, I prefer Fireworks. All because Fireworks has the 9-slice scale effect.

Fireworks is not meant to edit pictures, it is meant to design interfaces and things like that. What make it so interesting is that is mixes vector and bitmap very well, but it doesn't not excel in bitmap, nor in vector.

I prefer Fireworks for webpages/interfaces, Photoshop for images and Illustrator for all my vector based work

    Both. For different use.
    They are not the same.
Photoshop is for image editing and manipulation.
Fireworks is hybrid as I call. It is created to bridge between Photoshop and Illustrator.
It has a little bit of both of them, kinda.
Why I say this? Fireworks handle vector files or elements AS vector. And Image as image.
Most for website design mock ups because Fireworks delivers pixel perfect measurement (very important when you deal with web design)
Fireworks were from Macromedia and then company bought by Adobe, replacing ImageReady.

    Can't compare on amny levels

Fireworks is designed specifically for web design. It enables rapid web template design with fully active previews which is fantastic if you need to demo a concept with active roll-overs and links. While many web designers use photoshop for deigning sites, photoshop is not designed with this in mind so Fireworks has a far more intuitive usability and output. Fireworks is definitely not a photo editing package for print output at all!

    Photoshop forever!

Photoshop could do whatever Firework can but Firework couldn't do whatever Photoshop can.

I'm just a beginner, but as soon i entered this world all the people told me that Photoshop is the less used program as graphic designer. All the contrary i thought about it.
In fact now i use much more Ai, Fw, Fl, Ae then Ps
I use Ps only to render raster images as i wish, then i spend much more time on the others programs to get the job done:

    - Layouts
    - Illustrations
    - Vectors
    - Animations

    and so on...

    Edit
If i use a program like photoshop to create layouts, icons, templates, illustrations, animations and so on.... i already see the prof kick me out of classroom

Fireworks is designed is a web package only. It is not intended for use in print design work-flows and it does not contain the necessary features for this. Therefore it can not be compared to Photoshop in this regard at all!
