Just be careful - I stayed at a lower paying job out of loyalty, and after a few years, everyone got layed off...

You cannot be a professional unless you work for money. So long a it is legal and the customer has the money you do the job without fear or favour.

It depends on how much you personally value money but if you want to survive, it better motivate you to some degree.

I think that a lot of the time designers get taken advantage of because of the idea that this should be a 'passion profession'. That somehow if you care about getting paid you're not committed enough.

We all work in a commercial industry. Hence should get paid for our work.
The fact that I love design simply allows me to do it well, not for a pitance.

Although I wouldnt ever even consider working at an agency whose work I didnt like in the first place so that becomes a bit of a moot point.

Essentially, it's not mutually exclusive. You shouldnt ever feel that you dont deserve to get paid, or that you need to work somewhere you dislike for more money. You should chase for both. And you will get it!

Money is a BIG motivator, but as long as the pay is reasonable I prefer projects where I learn new stuff.

I think they need to walk together, money and professional satisfaction, because if your job cannot pay your bills, how can I work with focus and professional dedication. Principally when you have kids to feed rsrs.
So if your work is paid in a way you could focus only in to work, it's a good combination.

If you go by the Title & just the title, it is a no brainer. Money is what it will be, but, we got to get smarter as money gets more & more important. That is the key. Balance. We are going to need both in good measure, one to keep the roof over our heads & the other to keep us from going insane. I have heard this often "my job really sucks" but I've also heard "Man, i love this job"
Of course you guys know better.
    Have a great day!

More an enabler than a motivator.

Not a motivator in general - I've never been attached to money. The ONLY time it becomes a "motivator" is if cash flow is bad/money is tight - then I'd usually take the more mechanical jobs.

If money isn't an issue for you right now then I would definitely look elsewhere for work. I've worked with people who's values did not align with mine/they also didn't care and over time it became a drain to the point where I was constantly miserable. Flowers bloomed and the sun started shining once I was out of their grip.

This is the best answer around. When you do it at home its your passion/hobby. When you do it in your business its for money and reputation.
