How to get various typographic informations from a pdf file

    Hello to all!
I would like to work in publishing as an editor, and I'm trying to get an idea of some "book formats" (mainly novels) used by different publishers.
Some site provides "pdf excerpts" from novels they publish, so I wondered: is it possible to get the various settings used (formats, grids, position of headers and footers etc.) from a pdf file?
I have read positive reviews of the plugin "PDF2ID" but unfortunately I can not afford buying the plugin at this time (I have CS6).
Is there any who already owns it and would be so kind to convert some pdf files into editable indesign file?
Or is there some other way to get this kind of "typographic informations"?
    Thanks in advance!

Try to avoid working with converted documents.
Measure the PDF in Illustrator or Acrobat then make new indesign document with new formats, grid, headers and footers, master pages, styles ... It will probably take you less time then organizing and getting around in converted document, becouse you will know its structure and how it is created.

Thanks for the help! But... can Illustrator measure all these parameters (grid, indent, margins etc.)?

No, it can't. You need to manually measure.

I didn't work with plugin PDF2ID yet, if you will try it let me know if it is useful.
