It helps me to switch between disciplines, when I get stuck on graphic design I try sculpting or watercolor or reading. These seem to spark ideas.

I usually take a break reflect on my work by journaling. There is technically no such thing as a designer block , you just need to change things up .

As someone who is a creative professional sometimes you don't get to get outside and take a breath . .

So i will tell you my #1 way . . INSPIRATION ! . . Pinterest, ffffound, designinspiration, tumblr , blogger, flickr etc. . . Once you figure out these websites and get all your follows lined up you will have so many new ideas you won't know how you did it before. I prefer to keep all my ideas and stuff in Pinterest since i can use it anywhere and pull form all of the above sites. I will also spend a good 30min to an hour each day at work in the beginning pulling new ideas and inspiration. Hope this helps ;)

    1. Turn off your computer/tablet/etc. and go outside...
    2. Take a long walk or trip by bus/train/car to parts of town where you have never been before.
    3. Visit a museum or exhibit you wouldn't normally think of going to.

You might be surprised at what sparks your imagination and creativity =)

I usually look for books, inspiration sites, or some of my favorite designers' portfolio. Other thing that i do, is to go cycling for a while… it makes me think about ideas freely while doing some exercise without the pressure of the “creative block” itself.

Take a break. Like read a book or take a nap.

In our Design Studio we decided to do a so called "free day".
Each month another person chooses a field trip not directly linked to oure job.
For example visit a beekeeper or a improvisation workshop.

This helps us to open oure minds and rethink our design strategies.

Taking breaks, coming back to it and learning to optimize your anxiety levels... having work to do creates stress but too much stress lowers performance and not enough stress promotes a care free attitude. A balance of a mild stress (as odd as it sounds) is the best level to be at.

A glass or two of wine helps :)
But seriously, i usually read a fiction book or write a piece time by time so breaking from the usual habit as others noted is the right thing to do.

Stepping away and going outside for a bit. Drawing, doing something completely different.

    In no particular order:
    • cup of tea
    • take a short walk
    • restart your computer
    • move to a notebook and pencil from the computer screen

    a. stop trying
    b. walk away
    c. talk about it with somebody totally disconnected (a child, a friend, a barman - not your mother nor your accountant)
    d. if the deadline allows for this, go to bed early
    e. wake up before dawn and start over
    f. usually works fine (98% of the time)

Totally agree on this. Also - going out and taking a walk helps me to allow sorting my thoughts
