Regular exercise, and sleeping at regular hours keeps me energized for longer during the day

I definitely agree with drawing while not designing - probably one of the most cathartic activities in the world. Another biggie for me was learning when to take a break -sometimes all that lies between you and the final solution is a little fresh perspective!

Knowing when to stop in a job is my biggest downfall. As designers we want to make things perfect and can spend hours tweaking the smallest things.

Creativity, in a sense, can land us the job, but I agree that time management, organizational skills and what not are the backbone of any professional.

    Even in designing!

Developing and maintaining a solid "Project Management" system has been invaluable to me. Even though creativity is important - I am also a business woman so it is important to appear organized to my clients. And when working with multiple clients at a time it helps keep me on track with each project. The difficult part for me originally was being consistent with using my project management software. And now - I don't know how I ever did without!

What software/tools have you tried, and what are you currently using?

Get up and walk around every once in a while. Being locked on the computer all day becomes tedious and boring.

storyboarding - whether is outlining a document or scheduling a project where you are heading is big for me as i tend to lose focus otherwise

Lifestyle-wise, I like to stretch / run / bike / eat breakfast very first thing in the morning, before checking e-mail or falling into the vortex of social media. Great way to clear your head and mentally prepare for the day.

In terms of client relationships, I've always felt like empathy goes a long way. If you can put yourself in the shoes of the person who's trusting you with their money, their company, their livelihood—it makes the whole process a lot smoother.
