    I guess both flat and gradients first emerged about a year before iOS7 release, so the link is not that obvious to me

    As much as I love flat design, I am not sure it will last. The average uneducated (in terms of design) consumer typically does not care much for the trend. I personally would like to see a step back to vintage style design trends.

    I think we're moving towards a simpler form of design, but not necessarily flat. Large images, simple text and color, but well thought out. It fits inside so many design languages that are beginning to be established.
