my advice would be to work some years in an agency or startup, build a nerk of experienced collegues ans always take side jobs before going freelance fulltime.

Be ready to live on noodles being a freelancer - the main benefit is time freedom and creative control over a project but it's not for the feint hearted.

I'm a freelancer of years, tbh I'm not interested in becoming an employed designer because I like my pace work and I also feel like employed designers have their creativity stifled a bit.

used to freelance after i realized i could make absurd amounts of my. but then working from home became too much for me not knowing how to say no to ridiculous change requests...not charging enough because i felt so guilty cause i could do things easily and quickly...and also the fact of going nuts being in front of my computer dayin/dayout made me realize i prefer to work in an office with proper structure and some sort of non-isolation. also remember, you have to put aside $$ for taxes.

to be a freelancer, you must be prepared for all of the above. yeah, its cool to work for yourself, but at the same time, its also cool to work with others so creativity can grow with each others input (and awesome tricks people show what theyve learned.) hit or miss. both are great, but, yeah def prefer to work in an office.
