    I never used CorelDraw. I use Illustrator for vector and Photoshop for image edit.
    As for drawing and painting, id say Corel Painter, or Photoshop if you like the less "traditional" approach.

    Photoshop is better: the community, plug in, brush, tutorial, book, class ...
    But this question is too general, since Corel has Corel Draw (vector)+ Paint Shop Pro (Raster) + Corel Painter, Corel Draw is taught in some graphic school, but at the moment Ai has win the race.
    But I must admit that Corel Painter is good for Digital Painting, at least for newbie.
