Photoshop, just as long as you do not get tangled up in CC.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 & Corel Motion-3D are not primitive. Photoshop CC is actually assistant program.

Photoshop, hands down. Get Illustrator for vector creation/editing, and you should be good to go.

    Ive used used both software
    since they were first released

ie. more than 20 years ago
    and I still use them

Corel draw gets the job d in most cases for vector work
Illustrator/indesign (previously are recommended for printing production
    related work)

as for photoshop, it is the best thing there is for photo editing etc.
It is used in a lot of industries (video, fx, medical just a few)

If Painter from Corel is the subject of discussion here (this seems logic to me to be compared with Photoshop) I say Photoshop is the 0ne I choose. I find Photoshop to be more quick in getting the job d0ne. More tools for color adjustments and this is very important in a digital world for fixing color shift, saturation, replacement etc. The layers panel is more powerful in Photoshop than it is in Corel Painter.

Painter is very good in choosing the natural medium for draw and paint, has some nice features and brushes, pencils... Pick fast a 2B Pencil and you're good to go and it's feels natural with a Wacom tablet.

At the end of the day it's how you learn and feel. I saw digital paintings made equally beautiful with both apps.

Photoshop, Painter, Gimp is pixel manipulation based application.
Corel Draw is vector based, like Illustrator, Inkscape etc.
