    Conver AI to PDF

    Hello

We have many customers delivering their files as illustrator, but non-pdf-compatible.
Is there a way to batch an AI to PDF conversion?

I would like a hotfolder-based the most, but is it realistic?
So not, are there other possibilities to automate?

    Many thx

Go and tell your customers to save a pdf file!

As there may be no fonts and images embedded in the .ai file you have no chance to automate the conversion.

    Hi,

If they use CS4+, and on save of illustrator file, choose, on options on save, "Creat PDF Compatible File, you only need to change file extension (from: .ai to .pdf).

    This works for me

    Hey,
    take a look here.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2043244

If you are using OSX, this is an applescript that you can run as a batch process and even save as web format for uploading.

Newer illustrator files are pdfs anyway, simply change the suffix!

Email no but FTP should be ok.
    EPS to Distiller old skool!
Keep all transparencies live, let the RIP do the flattening, its 2011 not 1990

If the AI file is mostly line work and contours with everything outlined then save it as an EPS

or if it has embedded scans etc, Export it To An EPF (Esko Prep File) and take it from there,

although like the others have said new Illustrator files are basically PDF files aswell, just rename the .ai to .pdf

Use something like DropBox to Proof out larger files? 2GB free, can only be worth a try :)
