Red face BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS (for Graphic Design, Fonts, Grid Layout)

Hey guys! I'm always curious to learn new techniques and constantly up my art skill.

With that being said, I was hoping us as a community could talk about some great books you have recently found and read about anything graphic design related (Techniques, Fonts, Grid Layouts, etc.) I'm really curious as to what you guys have to say!

Please if you can in your response post explain a little about the book you are mentioning, and if at all possible provide a link to where we can find the book for purchase or download.

Thanks so much guys and I really look forward to your feedback!

    -Izabell

    Hello Izabell!
I can suggest you Taschen books, they've a wide range of graphic design books, and art generally; they've books about graphic design's history, logo design, stationary, illustration, advertise and much more.
The books are mainly photos/print of products, which is something I really like as I prefer to "see" examples than read theory.

Then you can try also Steven Heller's books. They're very good in my opinion, especially the "1000 examples of ..." series. Though they're a bit more expensive than Taschen ones.

I use to buy them online, I think on Amazon you can find everything you need
    I hope it helps!

We have Colourmania at work and we love it. It's split into design by colour which can be super handy.

If I could recommend you only one book, it would have to be "Typographie: A Manual of Design" by Emil Ruder, a simply timeless book written in 1967.
Of all the books I've ever read about typography, this is the one that has stuck with me ever since.

A book I would recommend regarding any type of design but more as a holistic view is

    Designing Programs

    by Karl Gerstner.

He wrote it in the 60's but it is still really relevant.

You can buy it from here for example, if you should be interested:

For typography: Elements of Typographic Style. Classical black cover, highly useful encyclopedia-like book that provides coverage from newbie to intermediate pro. Also look at Eric Spiekermann's new book (can't recall the name exactly but it's about stealing sheep or something approximate). He's a fun guy.

For graphic design: Pinterest. Look at other works. There's no way you can get a handle by reading a book.

I agree with grubstreet, The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst is great. Also, I enjoyed a lot a book called Just for You: Designs from the Heart, a compilation of works created by artists, designers and photographers specially for people who they cared about. So it mainly focuses on design on a very intimate and personal level, but at the same time on how you can comunicate an emotion on a lot of different ways.
