I would recommend a 15 inch (if you can afford them) as more space really helps with looking at more of the design you are working on. I'm currently in school for graphic design and that is what some of our professors recommended.

I've found Macs to be slower than similarly equipped PC's, especially with Photoshop and other demanding software but also for simple things like browsing the web. I guess OS X is a less optimized OS since the internals are the same compnts (just with a bigger price tag)

Mm I like Macbook Pro because of the way that it renders type vs. a Windows laptop, but there are many great Windows s out there —and you probably do get more processing power for your dollar.

    hmm...

I have a 13-inch macbook pro and it's works fine. but the screen feel a bit small sometimes. I will maybe buy a big screen as a compliment but the computer is great, does what you want it to do etc...

I use Macbook Pro 15 inch without Glossy Glass.
IMO it's necessary on the go because of the sun and so on.

Never had used a Retina Display before, but I can imagine that it is good for Photographs but as designer the old Display should be enough tho!

    Alienware or Asus

Alienware and some Asus (Republic of gamers) laptops are great for design, even for 3d design (rendering) and editing videos, for Ps, Indd and Ai are pretty good too, those machnes have and goog amount of ram, disk space and clock speed.
    PD. Sorry for my english!
