I Think Gist and also Thirsty could be a good addition too.

Very nice way is to create your own typeface based on the drawings of children letters. This can be very easy to convert to vector or raster graphics leave it.

Poetsen One, DR Agu Sans are other nice options. Cyclone if implemented correctly with the inline version is another option aside from the suggested ones previously covered.

I can't locate it now, but I remember when 'Where The Wild Things Are' came out, they also released the fonts used in the film. One of them was called Wild Child.

I was just going to say Comic Neue, too! It's clean enough so it's not so distracting, but definitely "cute-sy" enough for it to be appealing.

I also find that it depends on what you're working on. I make educational workbooks and textbooks for students so I also find some kind of school themed fonts to be effective if used properly. For example, chalkboard type of fonts.

Also, just for regular reading text, I love Helvetica Textbook Roman.

I think portentially Sammy is a really good choice? Feels quite grown up yet playful?

I think it's more about the way of using the font than the font itself. For example, here is a visual identity made by Experimental Jetset for Whitney Museum. They extended the identity for children programs but just kept it in Helvetica, with big letters and fancy colors.
