It's all beautiful, imo. Just not all of it is useful or popular.

Without beauty we wouldn't have "ugliness" either. I like gilty's post above. Hits the nail on the head. A lot of ugly things now will be beautiful in 20 years as trends change... Except Comic Sans or Copperplate Gothic Bold.

Don't entirely agree. I don't think Comic Sans and Copperplate Gothic are ugly -- they're just used inappropriately. That they came at no extra charge with the dominant operating system did not help, of course.

For many users I suppose the Fonts folder might have been their first contact with this quaint thing called "fonts" (certainly was mine) so I don't think this is through any fault of theirs -- if only fonts came with "for external use only" warning labels ... :p

That said, I once submitted assignments in Comic Sans. No comment ...

great article, thanks for the share.

And agree with the above - a lot of fonts are 'ugly' through usage in the wrong area ;)

I must agree, both fonts (Comic Sans MS and Copperplate Gothic) are used in the most awful ways.
One might bash me for saying this but comic sans shines when used in children's textbooks. That's just me though. But Papyrus really ticks me off. IMO

papyrus is the most useless font ever, i've never seen it look good. and it takes someone good with fonts to make comic sans and copperplate gothic look good, and unfortunately that's just not that common, so for me, and i think most people, we have a lasting negative impression of those fonts, understandably
