Yup, if you ever wanted to lift that...

It'd definitely be with a raster. LiveTrace would explode.

Wow! These are incredible. Thanks for sharing. They'd look so lovely just framed in a children's room.

They're part of a collection within the Prints and Drawings department of the British Museum. According to their description, "Series of 26 landscape scenes shaped as letters of the alphabet; rebound in a 20th-century binding." So they're on paper and bound in a book. Looks like it was created somewhere between 1818-1860 and acquired by the museum in 1870. There isn't a whole lot more here, but you can check the following link for a few more details:

I haven't been able to find any other info on L.E.M. Jones, the artist. The printer was Charles Joseph Hullmandel, who has a short Wikipedia article:

Unfortunately, there aren't any high-res images of the whole alphabet online (that I've been able to find). I agree with everyone that rasterizing these letters would be crazy, but it'd be great to have images big enough to clean up and isolate. Printed out on really brightly colored paper would create a great juxtaposition with the Romantic-style pastoral scenes.

Nice. Kind of reminds me of the original Apple Computer logo. I'd be afraid to print anything with this font as it would take up lots of memory, and my MacBook Pro wouldn't be up for the challenge.

More on this amazing alphabet: http://www.letterology.com/2014/02/letterforensics-101.html (scroll down to see how the mystery of L.E.M. Jones was solved). Also more on the printer -- quite a story!

Thanks so much for posting this -- I so enjoyed looking and marveling at these.
