I think whatfontis is a good tool, whatthefont of Myfonts is not better than it in some cases, however, it's good, not best tool, because finally it's just a tool, a machine, it's not intelligent like us, our eyes are the best tool for font identity, but many times we just can't remember what the name of font. :))

I really love what the font, but one problem is you generally need to do some manipulation in photoshop to separate the letters yourself to make it easier for the engine to accurately identify separate letters, especially if the image you are using has the type custom kerned or with negative letter spacing.

I've always just used Whatthefont, so it's good to know the other engines out there. WTF can only identify a font if it's part of the Myfont catalog.

I spent a week IDing fonts on the WTF forum over the summer. Like, 60 hours obsessively hunting down font IDs. I found it was like a bootcamp for my eye, and it was sort of like a game to boot. I'd recommend that to train your eye.
