    Newspaper Font

it's nice to have as large/versatile of a family as possible. something with extensive opentype features to help with all the minutiae involved in newspaper layout. i second those that have recommended Freight. other ones to consider:

    Tiempos from Klim
    Elena from Process Type Foundry
(Despite being beautiful in text, a much smaller family.)

I used free fonts for my project with newspaper layout.
Cardiff font worked just fine for me:

From commercial fonts I used Poynter Old Style:

    and Chronicle Text
    Code:

I think Chronicle from H&F will work well or guardian family from schwartz.

I agree with FernandaOliviera that HFJ Mercury is a fantastic news face with its various grades. Also consider Tabac by Suitcase Foundry, it also features a grade system.

I also have to agree with the feeling about HFJ Mercury, it has a great variety of stylistic alternates, as well as different Grades depending on the paper and printers being used.
It has a traditional feel, but when mixed with a good sans-serif for headings it reinvigorates itself and feels fresh, hip and young.

I also like Georgia or Palatyno. The Times is also a good option.
