I'm thinking something classic and timeless, to go with the book feeling. Just throwing it out there, but.. Sabon?

Sabon is good, especially if you can work in some of the ligatures. Otherwise, the Bolton family might work. I do a lot of 'old fashioned' stuff, and frequently use High Tower Text and Day Roman (both free fonts) and several Goudy variations for when I want something that looks old, but not distressed.

Mrs Eaves (Emigré) has a rather ideosyncratic and 'bookish' look. It might just be what you're looking for. Filosofia (Emigré) is another winner in this department. Both fonts were designed by Zuzana Licko and clearly bear her signature. You might also consider older 'bookish' fonts, like Plantin (Monotype) or Bembo (Monotype).

if you what you want to communicate is classic, you could try some old humanists, from the first book bind era circa 1500 est 1600, they have a combination of old roman and modern humanist types, thats as much classic as book history you can go, as going further back gets you to the prior book bind era

    Titling Cases

Look for traditional book fonts that have Titling or Display versions, Perpetua is a good example. The titling case is far more elegant and designed for larger type sizes. Perpetua Titling is one you should check out.

I'd probably go with something slightly newer looking, but still aware of its legacy, eg. Tiempos or Domaine by Klim:

Definitely use a sans serif by a recent foundry, like the beautiful work from HFJ or Klim as they have a historical sense but look modern.
