    Akzidenz Grotesk

How about Akzidenz Grotesk? I love this font and use it all the time.

Most of other suggestions are ignoring the fact that Helvetica is a neo-grotesk, neither a humanist sans-serif nor a grotesque!

Akkurat is one of the best neo-grotesks there is.

Recently released YWFT Vaud is also a great option. Particularly because of the great number of weights it comes with.

I second maison neue and akkurat. Also, lettera txt is nice, as are ff bau & folio icg.

    Alternative to Helvetica

Excellent for buttons and can get from typekit.

Free alternative to Proxima Nova is Google Font Roboto
    https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Roboto

But, typekit offers 1 free font family .. to get eot hosted by Adobe

Nowadays, you can get a lot of (better) alternatives to Helvetica: (all from Google Fonts)

    Roboto
    Open Sans
    Lato

Proxima Nova and Gotham both share some nice features, especially the almost perfect circle O's.

Sofia Pro is also great within that category, much more geometric than helvetica though. Great alternates too (so the A's don't look like Futura, etc).

Post Grotesk (Incubator) is a great Neo-Grotesk, featured in Typographica.

    Replica from Lineto

    Always loved that uppercase R.
