Das Grotesk was inspired by earlier nineteenth-century grotesques, but it is much more related to American gothic designs such as those by M.F. Benton. Due to their pure geometric structure, most grotesque typefaces tend to have a rather monotonous and lifeless appearance, thus failing to express the ideals of the modern creed.
Das Grotesk on the other hand is a lively design with several distinguishable characteristics which attract attention when set at large sizes, whilst they become subtle and blend evenly at small sizes, fostering a neutral identity. This is a very legible and space-saving typeface with a narrow structure. It was designed with slanted curved ends and sheared terminals applied on several straight strokes. It has two-storey ‘a’ and ‘g’ but includes single-storey alternates.

Do you happen to know if they are originals or WF/PDF-rips?
Because there is something fishy with the kernings...

Really don't know this, but I must ask...
Is it a question or ascertainment?

Assuming that MyFonts' data reflect the latest version and given that this was very recently released, I doubt that this is an original copy; if it's a rip, the ripper didn't indicate this so I can't tell.

Regarding the kerning (and OpenType programming, for that matter), unfortunately, the only way to check would be to compare it with an original copy, in which case we find ourselves back where we started. :(

    It's the same files.
The problem is, as far as i can see, mainly on the Black Italic weight.

Anyway, its not a big deal.... Thanks for the replies, guys!

If you don't mind, could you please tell us what kerning problem(s) you might have encountered?

    Don't leave us hanging! :(

The kerning problem mainly appears on the Black Italic weight. Check the "ic" kerning on the "The quick brown fox" sentence...

Neither of the two file versions has "ic" as a kerned pair.
The problem appears to be that the letter c has not been correctly positioned in the bounding box. (is that the right terminology?) Quite possibly a fault at Parachute's end.
That apart, kerning pairs total = (first upload) 10920
    = (my upload) 5727
So the two files are not the same, but they both have the same problem

Ugh. It seems like it's not just "ici" either -- "iai", "ici", "idi", "ioi", "ICI", and "IGI" look off as well.

You are right. It is not any easy thing to fix, because accented characters are affected too.

Guys, this is a web-font rip. Kerning in Black Italic is the same as on myfonts.

    Yeah it's really sucks.

It's not the kerning, it's what I said above.
If you type in The Quick Brown Fox in Typecast, the "ic" issue is obvious, but that's only one of the problems.
It's too many characters (for me at least) to go through and fix (weisze's list, plus several more).

This is from the specimen pdf and looks fairly OK to me. So whether the issue is with the webfonts or is an attempt to foil rippers, I know not.
Thank you for your post and please be assured we all appreciate your work, qinetic.
