    Question Xitron Xenith RIP replacement...?

Currently I'm working with a Xenith RIP that is about to leap frog (according to Xitron). Not sure exactly what "leapfrogging" means, and Google wasn't very resourceful.. I'vr just a few questions being I am new (3 months) to the prepress world..

Leapfrogging.. What does it mean for me?
and, in the event it happens, what is a good replacement?

To add to the same topic, Are RIPs compatible with any platesetter? We got a Presstek Dimension 425.

Thank you for your time in advance, Printroot!

    It depends of your platesetter.

If you drive your platesetter with a Tiff catcher, you can buy every RIP that output Tiff 1bit.

If not you should buy a RIP with an interface card compatible with your platesetter.

Brokedick; you dont have to worry about a thing. The Presstek Dimension 425 has a tiff cather so you can drive the ctp with practicly any RIP you like. The Xitron is good, but not the best out there. But if gets the job done, dunno why you should upgrade anyway :)..
Besides, the leapfrock should really dont mean a thing to you.

Leapfrogging.. What does it mean for mean?

I believe you have an old version that had already been superceeded by newer versions, and they are coming up with another, newer version soon.
The term 'leapfrogging" describes an option to buy the latest version without going through the intermediate (now outdated) versions.
