    Upgrade CTF configuration

    Hello to you all,
I want to upgrade my ctf-configuration to make it “futureproof” and want know your opinions to see what’s possible.
    This is the current configuration:
    • Dell Poweredge 2500 with windows 2000 server.
    • Harlequin Rip HQ-510PC Scriptworks rip version 5.3
    • Screen Katana 5055 scsi version (major bottleneck this scsi interface)
    • The scsi cards (2x) are Adaptec AIC 7899 Ultra 160/M PCI card, on the back of the dell server is an sentinel scsi dongle.

Just bought two 18 gb scsi discs on ebay for backup purposes. As far as I know, the latest version of harlequin that supports scsi is v. 8.0 (xitron & rti rips are not an option, low budget… ☹).

Just want to know what my options are:
    • Is it possible to upgrade the windows 2000 server, and if so to which version?
    • Or is an old XP computer a better option, migrate all the scsi devices to the XP-pc.
    • Can I install the “new” harlequin (probably version 6.X or 7.X) software at the same disk where version 5.3 is installed? Just for testing purposes.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

You can install more than one rip on your computer.
I don't know which RIP version support scci interface, but you can try on a modern computer as long as it recognizes scci card. As I drive a 20 years Dolev 800 (xitron arbor interface) by a new computer running win 7 32bit, even win 8 if I want.

Your limit is HQ 10, or the newest one in 32bit.
You can use windows xp, 7, 10, server 2012, etc, as long HQ10 is supported.

The scsi drivers are available and it's the only way if you don't want to buy the usb bluebox.

Thanks for the answers. I'm going for the windows 7 installation with the 2 scsi-discs. HQ10 is not an option because the screen katana has a scsi-interface. And according to the HQ10 folder, scsi device support was discontinued from version 8.1, going forward.
Next week I will do some research on this scsi stuff.

It was discontinued in 64bit software, on 32bit no problem!

That's good news. Going to give HQ10 a try.
