Do you mean make plates with the Epson 7900.

I only now it from Glunz&Jensen iCTP Platewriter 3000.

The probem is that you only can make a run lenght about 50.000

In reality it is not so much.

I am in agreement with zombie. The quality is not the same that a conventional CTP. In addition the distances must be short

    Hello
I opened a post on this topic.
    http://www.printroot.com/forum/f34/epson-stylus%C2%AE-pro-7900-computer-plate-system-2263/
I'm testing the plates with 2 spot in a GTO, and works well. Still I could not try a four colors. The product is very interesting

    iCtP systems

There are two good iCtP systems available.
TUK Systems supply a Polyester Plate system using standard Epson printers and inks. Targetted at the one and two spot colour market with occasional 4 colour jobs of the low to medium quality process work. Pros are that the system is the lowest cost to buy and to use and the Epson printer can be used for all the standard work such as proofing, banners and photos. Can be used AM & FM Screening. Plates and Film imaged. Maximum plate size 770x1030mm (8up).
Glunz & Jensen supply a metal plate system. These are reworked Epson printers using specialist fluids to image the plates and an oven to bake them. The system is suitable for process work but can only be used for plate imaging. The systems can only image FM screening. If you only need a plate imaging system this will produce good quality plates. The fluids and plates are more expensive than the Polyester system. Plates up to B2 press sizes (4 up)

There are other (newer) systems on the market but the reports from end users are of issues with short run lengths before the image breaks down.

I had the idea to buy this system... but its main issue is the (risks of) clogging of the ink nozzles. To avoid this problem, the printer has a constant regular (and frequent !) automatic self-cleaning, increasing the use of fluids and the cost!
Finally, as I made quite a little quantity of plates, I gave up because it appears that the iCTP would cost me more fluid for its self-cleaning than for plate making!

General rule for ink jet printers is: you must use it every day, or just to do nozle check, to allow to ink flow through head.
