Experience of my clients tells me that Screen justifies its cost. During the last four years, more than 10 plants. No problem. Only routine maintenance.

both machines are of good quality. Nevertheless METADIMENSION RIP has the advantage.

    Ctp

We use Suprasetter CTP with six heads for almost five years. Heads are fine. Had problems only with autoloader transport and pneumatics in warranty period (Be sure to maintain clean air supply). One moment is bad that if you change plate format you get the same speed, because of heads array. Screen as far i know get higher speeds with small plate formats. Also temperature variations can have influence in distance between heads, but this is solved by air conditioner. :) As far i know paper separation of autoloader is better than Screens, but it depends on plates. From mechanics point of view Fuji Thermal devices are simplest maintain. But as far you get support contract you have not to worry about it. :)

Creo has a very fast configuration. 60 plates per hour. Suprasetter can expose 38 plates per hour max (8 up, positive). Max 6 laser heads can be installed in Suprasetter but what i heard 8 heads will be released soon and speed will be 50 plates per hour.
Both works reliable but Heidelberg RIP solution is better with PDF Toolbox, Calibration Manager, less problem during rasterizing and Signastaion for imposition is a plus

Edit : I learnt recently. Suprasetter carriage has 8 slots for laser heads but max 6 modules can be installed. Additional slots are just to make possible 2-3-4-6 heads correct positioning. Machine is quite reliable but limited with 38 plates per hour and there will not be a speed upgrade.

TRENDSETTER with tiff down-loader is compatible with any Workflow or Rip thar produce 1 bit tiff, (any rip output 1bitiiff).

Other Way The workflow is free when you by any Trendsetter, rely is free because if you by separated the machine and workflow the pricec is to much.

i had read that metadimension rip has advantage.
I worked with prinergy evo, and actually daily work with metadimension and i prefer undoubtedly prinergy but it depends on the way of working of each.
Both machines are very good but you have to consider is maintenance, semiautomatic, hours you want to remove plates, frame types to use, trap, icc profiles, proof, etc because usually when buy a ctp bring a workflow (with a lot of options +cost)

    Heidelberg vs Kodak

    Hi,

We need to see this discussion in angles.

    1. Hardware side

    2. Workflow software

Regarding hardware, Heidelberg and Kodak jointly developed Trendsetter. So it is a Heidelberg technology. Trendsetter is a workhorse hardware wise and it is of the fastest CTP engine.

The points in Suprasetter which scores are

    1. temperature compensation inside the CTP which is important for a thermal ctp

    2. Inline punching inside CTP which helps in good registration and reducing makeready in press time.

Hardware wise, Trendsetter is better price/performance when compared to suprasetter.

On the workflow side, the same Heidelberg Kodak connection is still clubbed with Trendsetter CTP's. It is good, but not very user friendly.

Suprasetter Workflow scores a big plus with its range of softwares starting from Signa station, Meta dimension, PDF Tool box, color tool box etc.

You may know that, all the FOGRA icc profiles are created with Heidelberg color tool box only. In word, Heidelberg is the best workflow software because they are masters in all the segments of printing starting from prepress, press and postpress

To conclude, if you are looking for faster output of plates and you have similar kind jobs, then trendsetter will be the right choice

But if you have various kind of jobs coming in and you need faster and efficient workflow, go for Heidelberg.

    And who told you that?

    Guidelines in choosing CTP:

    1. Press capability, cost of production, future expansion
    2. Type of plate to use
    3. Service-includes software and hardware (very important)
    4. Productivity (speed dictates the price of the CTP)
    5. Workflow (they are NOT FREE, lot of options, be careful of putting options that you may not actually needed. Not necessarily you will also buy bundled workflow)

All leading platesetters (and even not leading) are capable of producing the benchmark for quality (ISO standards).
