Juhani Pallasmaa — The Thinking Hand. It’s primarily a book on the philosophy of architecture, but I recommend it to anyone who wonders about the deeper questions of design and creativity.

I just finished up Andy Weir's The Martian, which has quickly become one of my favorites. I'm also about half way through Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, which is pretty good. Next up is Ernest Cline's Ready Player One, about which I hear nothing but good things.

On the subject of reading - in the broadest possible sense

Just finished listening to Paul Michael Garcia's narration of Nicholas Carr's "The Shallows".

    Stunningly brilliant!

If you're interested in reading in general (especially non-fiction), understanding the difference between what happens to your brain when you read a book and when you read on the web, cutting-edge research on the workings and nature of the human brain (and why it is NOT like a computer), perception, cognition, or a mind-blowing analysis of Google's self-stated 'mission' and the unexpected consequences of digitizing books...

...then this is the book for you.

Turn off your phone. Remove all other distractions. Sit back, listen (or read) and be carried off into realms of the mind that will fire up your imagination, and as a consequence, your creativity.

(God, I sound like a bloody evangelist. But it really IS that good.)

Next up for me is the same author's "The Glass Cage".

''Talking to Anna about maths'' , kind of an entry to the world of maths and their applications to our daily lives.

    Great Recommendations

Some great recommendations in this thread. Thanks!

I've been reading a lot of tutorial books. Getting into Rails and Laravel so the pad's full of those. Not only a book but has screencasts too: Ruby on Rails Tutorial. Best one I read so far. Also kinda got over fictional novels. Dunno why. Guess it's because I'm on a learning binge of sorts.

    Cheers!
