What about the classic — black shiny letters printed on matte black paper?

Foil stamping is nice if the graphic/typography is done right. It can be expensive to produce though. Then again it must be suitable for business type. i.e a beautifully foil stamped business card would suit a small wedding planner more that a large multi million pound beer company.

FWIW we've just run out some gilt edged cards on Notturno (think it was 330gsm). A good subtle use of colour, but expensive.

    Gilt edges example here: http://bespokeprintedstationery.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/web_pic_18092013_011.jpg

i love metal foils embossed in soft white paper (like cotton ones), i think is the coolest thing.
otherwise i love as well white/fluoro/transparent silk-screen print on dark paper, looks awesome.

They are expensive- but totally stand out. Watch for coupons and sales- I got mine over half off and never regret it!

I ordered some from them also and loved them until humidity got to them and the layers started to peel away. Don't think I'll go back to them again.

    Make it simple, but badass

Simple is professional, but I would also think about making yourself standout. Creative doesn't have to be ugly and overwhelming.

    Simple, but different.

    Check out 4over.com
They cater to resellers though so you'd need a tax ID to give them to get an account - but they have a few unique print products, and the pricing isn't bad.

Totally agree with this. I am a very visual person and when I look for a certain contact, I always picture their business card, which makes it easier for me to find.
