I always wanted to know which tools do other people use in order to prepare the jobs for their digital printing machines when they have to print variable data coming from databases.
I receive databases in excel or text format.
I usually import the text or open it with libreoffice on a desktop environment. Then, order the records by post code, address, etc.
Afterwards, I use a Java app that I programmed myself from scratch some years ago that analyzes the records and gives you a report of the post codes on the database.
If the database is more complex, I import it to access and create sql queries.
I'm just curious: what software or methods do other people use?
