    I am currently using a Brother A3 Multifunction MFC-6490CW

I think it is alright for my purposes as a student right now. I printed several books with it already and they came out just fine.
I am planning on upgrading when I leave University, but until then it works great, for I am mainly printing text and vectorised stuff on it

    Hello...

Depending on the output demands and your budget, you could go for a used Epson Stylus Pro 4800-4880. They are of the best things around, built for graphic arts
and fine art printing. Combined to a RIP or proofer solution, they can print exceptionally
and they are widely used for proofing...

Another solution, would be to buy a new mid series Epson and use along with a soft Proofing solution, as PowerRIP.

If you would go for a laser (color, A3, naturally) If you would like to print brochures, work samples and for multi copy output...

I would suggest an HP LaserJet, whethen an "old" , like CLJ 8550 (A4 sized...)
or of a new series, like P4025
or you could try a Xerox Phaser 7100 - 7500.

I have an Epson R1900, and I'm really disappointed in it. If I don't use it for a month or so, the tint dryes into the nozzles, and it spits out a ton of ink to fix it. Basically - unless you use it on a regular basis - you will have to constantly get new ink cartridges, just to have it around. So I rather not use it

Xerox Phasers are very good for type proofing, but expensive :(

    Printers

    I use HP-1050 and K8600 and Epson.

I am thinking of buying the successor of the Hp-1050 (since it is old and you can't print to it directly from a MAC).
