As a graphic designer I use at home HP pigment inkjet for indoor print. It has 8 colors, cost per print is very low and colors are very vivid. Great for indoor posters.

For external prints and printing on vinyl I'm using facility with other owner and his HP Latex L26500. Again 6 color wide format..excellent on price per m2, but you must invest a lot of my.

I own also used Xerox DC 250 laser printer to offer professional digital printing. Cost is low only if you are on Xerox service agreement.

Years ago I started to have ROland VP-540...great printers for startup designers which would like to have in same machine printer + cutter. You can print on paper, vinyl, canvas etc. You get also RIP software with it from ROland. Very nice GUI.

On desktop printers...well inkjets from Epson for proof prints...HP for long life usage...but if you don't print a lot...costly...and your print heads might get dried.

I like HP because print heads are reachable in pricing.
