    Which printer do you use?

    Hey everybody!
I'm considering buying a new printer here - I'm a graphic design student so I can't afford to spend too much my but the demand on the output is fairly high...
Any recommendations? It has to be color, I haven't decided on Laser or Inkjet jet.

What do you guys use and why?
    Thanks for your help!

The best inkjet printer is based on Epson DX5 and DX7 head.
The best laser printer is old HP pronters, like LaserJet 1300 or 2200.

hi. i have a canon w8400 - which you can pick up fairly cheap on ebay. it's an old model but the quality is still fantastic by any standards. + there's very good compatible ink out there.

I always preferred the epson printers for color and brother printers for laser.

Get a wide printer if possible:
    Epson Artisan 1430 Inkjet Printer

I just bought an Epson Workforce 7520.
For the price you can't go wrong.
It can print, scan, copy and fax.
    And very fast. High Quality.

As a student you'll want to print a lot, fast and on a budget. I would recommend to get an old black & white HP LaserJet.
They can be bought cheaply used and will usually have plenty of life left in them. Printing is cheap, too: A refilled to-ner for 5'000 pages for a LaserJet 2200 costs just about 30 bucks.

You just have to make sure the printer works and that the fusing unit does not need replacing.

I recently took a 2200 home form work for free as they were being replaced with newer units. Works like a beauty and even the to-ner is almost full.

    Hi there,

You may have to give some more details: would you print bitmaps pictures or only vectorized designs? If so, any laser printer would be a good option, even on the used market (just check the availability for trs and anything that may be useful to get it working). If you plan to print both photographs and graphic designs, you may look for an inkjet printer (even though laser printers are nowadays much better at printing photographs as compared to what they used to be, inkjet is still way better, color and definition-wise).
You may find a lot of still good printers on the used market, just check, as said before, that you can get easily anything you need to have them work. I got used to Epson printers (both for printing photographs and for pre-press jobs); it was a time a used an Aculaser 8600 (large A3 laser color printer) that did fairly well the job (I used it to print lay-outs through its dedicated RIP) but nowadays it's only inkjet.

But that's my experience, I guess that at some point, any good printer, was it Epson, HP, Canon or Xerox, would be good. It just depends on what you need and of what you may have close to you (for instance, if you have a good seller close to you that gets well with Canon, just go with it).
